I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)
Have you ever wished there will come a point in your Christian walk when somehow you wouldn’t be tempted anymore to think evil thoughts or commit sin?
Well, the fact is that the battle will not end until we are safe in the arms of Jesus in heaven.
That is why we need to put our armour on.
As we are told in Ephesians 6:11,
Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil
Wouldn’t it be great to think that you could reach a level at a certain point in your life as a believer where you would no longer be vulnerable?
The truth is, the fight will rage on until the final day.
The Christian life not only has been compared to a battle, but also to a race.
The kind of race the apostle Paul was probably describing in 2 Timothy was a circuit filled with obstacles.
There were numerous hurdles and obstacles in Paul’s life that he dealt with, ranging from persecution, physical danger, to a thorn in his flesh.
Yet, Paul did not give up.
He saw the Christian life as a race to be completed.
He was aware that he will be qualified to receive the crown only when he finishes the race.
In order to finish the race, he had to keep the faith and fight the good fight.
He endured trial and temptation right to the very end.
He understood that the battle will be over and that he will be the victor.
What you must do
You must arm yourself with the same attitude.
You must keep on fighting the good fight of faith as you move forward toward the finish line.
The Christian life is a constant process of battle.
And the moment you stop fighting and moving forward, you are defeated.
Lord, strengthen me to wage constant battle against the camp of the enemies.
2 Timothy 4: 1-8
